This may be the last time you have to do a manual upgrade for your WordPress.
So, Get some time off and upgrade your sites to use the latest WordPress 2.7, code named “Coltrane” – available right now.

There are so many new features included in this version of WordPress.
For me, the most notable among them are as follows.
1. Automatic upgrade to future versions of WordPress – as and when available, done right from the inside of WordPress Admin.
2. Threaded / Pages comments
3. New Admin UI.

Important Note:
All of my themes, either Free or Premium, will still work as it is, without any modifications.

Updated on Dec 13th 2008
It means upgrading to WordPress 2.7 will not break any of my themes., but for new features like ‘threaded comments’.
I will post again for details on how you can do it yourself.

I love them and recommend them to my students all the time.

By compatible I assume nothing breaks, but how about new WP2.7 features such as enhanced comments, will they also work ?

For example what’s mentioned here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Migrating_Plugins_and_Themes_to_2.7/Enhanced_Comment_Display

  4. Sadish says:

Thanks Mike for reminding about that. I will be writing a post soon to let people know how they can update the theme to get this new feature.

I still use 2.6.5. I heard that some plugins will not work if update wp to 2.7.

  6. Francesca says:

The biggest problem I had when I updated wp from 2.6.5 to 2.7 was not with updating my theme to get the enhanced comment features – that was easy to do and worked -, it was rather that sidebar widgets stopped working properly and entries did not show up in the sidebar, though the relevant widget was active. And this had me eventually switching to another theme made compatible with wp 2.7 by its developers, and it works like charm.

I’ll be waiting for your update, Sadish, specially the “threaded” comments so I can remove the plugin using this.
